The year is now 2018. Why does Volkswagen’s US website contain no 2018 VW Golf information? No 2018 configurator, no 2018 brochures. And, there are no 2018 Golfs listed on Autotrader in the US. Does anyone know what’s going on with this?

Kinja'd!!!

Volkswagen still doesn’t have the 2018 Golf configurator online

Maybe they’re going to flood the market with fixed used VW diesels instead.

VW announced the 2018 Golf lineup back in October. No idea if it is normal for it not to be here yet:

Yup. There were even reviews by Car and Driver and others of the 2018 Golf TSI, which were published around November.

My main question is: will the 2018 Golf TSI be offered with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with the manual transmission? The GTI already offers ACC+6MT, but I don’t want the added expense/complexity of the GTI right now.

VW also offers ACC+5MT in the Golf TSI in Canada (but not the US) for 2017. Also, I drove a Golf TSI with ACC+6MT in Germany last month, and it was so much better than I expected.

I just started selling VWs last week, I can try to look into it for you. I know we have a couple ‘18 GTIs but we don’t have any golfs at all at the moment. I should be able to look up any changes between ‘17 and ‘18 tomorrow and let you know, I’m still getting the hang of everything.

If Im being honest, I used to be a lot boy for a VW dealership. The GTI is soooooo worth it. The Golf does amazing in first impressions- but it gets dull. Driving the GTIs were always a treat.

As far as the 2018 configuration goes. No idea. I drove by said VW dealership not 2 weeks ago, and they don’t have any 2018s on the lot. That being said, it wasn’t the most well managed place in the world (at all).

They have too many unsold 2017s sitting on lots.

My local dealer has a lot of 2018s in stock already. Like, most of their golf inventory. So no idea, but you can go any buy one ;)

If you check dealership inventories, I know they have them, and have even saw some of them in person

I don’t see the order guide online but the acc wasn’t listed on the change guide for the 2018 year so I don’t think it will be an option.

Probably because they want you to buy a Tiguan or an Atlas instead.

Thanks!

I read one review of the 2018 Golf which said there will be a 2018 Golf SE manual transmission.

I read an other review which said the 2018 Golf SE will have an optional Driver Assistance Package which includes ACC.

Are either or both of these things true?

Hmm. I guess the question is: Should I ...

(a) sell my BRZ and get a GTI

or

(b) keep my BRZ and add a Golf to my personal fleet.

I am leaning towards (b).

I’ll do more digging tomorrow, I can tell the SE will have a manual but not sure about the ACC, will try to get an answer for you.

Small note: If you plan on buying a Golf, do not go for the manual. I’ve found the GTIs in particular have really strange shifting quirks. 2nd gear is abnormally high up, and it can be annoyingly tricky. Even starting off is a bit of a chore in the GTI. Same with the regular golf, but its slightly mitigated by a more forgiving clutch. Once you get off, both cars are a hoot, and if you spend most of your driving on highway or on backroads with few full and complete stops, Manual is a blast. The DCT is pretty fantastic, and dare I say the preferred transmission for the Golfs in mixed driving. However this is all based on the mk7, and not the mk7.5. Perhaps they fixed it- but I have a feeling they didn’t.

And, unless your dead set on a Golf and ACC, you might want to also look at the GLI. Espeically if your intrested in a manual. And with the 2019s (with ACC likely) coming out, you could get a killer deal on a 2018 GLI. The GLI isnt MQB, but it’s manual is certainly better.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the advice!

I have spent quite a bit of time in a Mk7 manual Golf. Maybe I am weird, but I like the clutch and shifter. For example, I spent a couple days in a Mk7 Golf 1.5T manual (with ACC) driving across Germany on the Autobahn and loved it. I also spent some time in a US-market manual Mk7 Golf 1.8T.

I did consider the Jetta (it has much better discounts/incentives), but I decided that I am dead set on a hatchback or wagon.

To my knowledge, aside from Volkswagens, the only other “manual + hatchback + ACC” cars for sale in the US are the Mazda3 and possibly the Chevy Cruze and Kia Forte SX. Let me know if you know of any others!

The most annoying thing about the Manual, is the “Clutch bleeder delay diaphragm”
While fancy sounding, its possibly the worse part of the transmission. If you let off the clutch fast, there is a noticeable delay between letting it off and it rising back with your foot. Its not noticeable in normal driving around town, but if you want to push the car a little that diaphragm thing will not like it. Heres the link to the forum on it.

(Easy enough to fix, but who wants to ‘fix’ something on a brand new car? http://www.golfmk7.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28853 )

Its pretty obivious when launching the car, but it is noticeable at other times. I haven’t noticed it when driving on backroads. For all I know they updated it on the Mk7.5, but we’ll see.

If your serious about ACC, VW only offered it on the SEL of the 2018 new Tiguan and the SE w/ Tech Package on the Atlas, so I have feeling it will be similar for the new Golf aswell. A new SEL Golf costs $29k, whereas the GTI SE costs $30k. It might be availble on the SE as apart of a Tech Package? Its hard to tell ATM, but it might.

The Autobahn (which is essentially the GTI equivlant to the SEL trim) which will most definitly have it, and that comes in at $34000k. (Not to mention, you’ll have a hell of a time finding a SEL Golf with a stick).

I’d first recommend test driving a GTI before you commit to a Golf. My dad test drove a regular Golf, and was going to buy that until test driving a GTI for shits and giggles, and he fell in love and bought a 2015 GTI SE.

I will admit the mk7 GLI is a wild card. Its hard to tell because VW is the absolute worse when it comes to Trim level consistency. The Mk6 GLI is considered a trim, so it does not have any sub trims, so who knows if VW plans on keeping the Mk7 GLI as just a Trim level, or if it’ll have sub Trim levels like the GTI.

Personally, if your not horribly attached to the BRZ, sell it and get a Golf R. It fills all your needs and more. You’ll also get AWD, and a 100 HP boost over the BRZ. Albeit, you won’t get a sunroof...

Also if I ignore my blantant VW fanboyism, you might be able to get a Fiesta ST or Focus RS with ACC. I have no idea, I do not follow Ford whatsoever.

I could be wrong but I don’t see any mention of ACC for 2018, so I highly doubt it will be available. You do get a stick in the SE though.
